2018 CSW Booth at the
39th Annual Endangered Species Faire

CSW attended ESF39 on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 (11:00 am to 4:00 pm, although we got there at 9:00 to do setup, and left around 4:30, which makes a long day — it's amazing how much energy it all takes). This year they moved the faire back to Cedar Grove near Chico Creek Nature Center. As usual, we had a well-received booth, packed with information. We handed out many tri-fold flyers and talked to many people, most of whom were very interested. More than 100 people signed the CSW petition to our elected representatives. The word is definitely spreading and interest is growing. We got many thanks from people for having a booth and doing what we do. (we get very few anti-comments anymore, although denial is high in some people)

Thank you to our dedicated volunteers, Betty Credit, Marla Crites, Ted Holmes, Bill Donnelly, and Lauren Ayers for manning the booth, setting it up, and tearing it down. For some reason this year donations were noticeably down, so that hurt us a bit. We rely on donations to pay for event fees, replace handouts we give out, and our other projects. There were also fewer volunteers this year, as well. This all perplexes us and we don't know what to do about it.

All in all, although it does tend to be a bit of work in the sense of being on your feet for an extended period of time, talking to people, the unloading, set up, take down and loading – it was fun and interesting. We talked to quite a few people who were interested, some of them fairly new to the issues. And we planted some seeds. (thanks, again, to Betty for bringing the seedling plants (tomatoes and chard) and giving them away for free – that's always a nice draw and attention-getter, and they are very popular)

It was a good-sized Faire this year and attendance was fairly high. Unfortunately, we were not placed in a good location, so that significantly hurt the people traffic. The weather was fairly nice, and not too warm, although the Aerosol Spraying above us made it muggy later in the day.
